I have said it before and I will say it again, only life should dictate your style. It is 2018, we are amid the greatest feminist movement this world has ever witnessed; people are more forward in terms of life and style than they have ever been. However, there are still individuals who think that certain clothing, like crop tops, should not be worn by women who are plus size or shaped a particular way. Worse than that, there are still plus size women who have absorbed this ignorance and act accordingly. So, here I am, AGAIN For the 367489 time screamingly… PLUS SIZE WOMEN CAN WEAR WHATEVER WE WANT AND SLAY IT!
I honestly feel like the Harriet Tubman of this plus size women and crop tops conversation. I have been working hard for years in an effort to led plus size women to a place of fashion freedom. In 2015, I contributed a post to Gorgeous In Grey (9 Ways Fat Girls (like me) Can Wear Crop Tops) after an editor from O Magazine stated that only women with flat bellies should wear crop tops. Then in 2016 I had a post that I contributed to The Curvy Fashionista (Crop Tops & Big Bellies; I wear what I want even at a size 24) go viral. The post was based on an experience I had in which a fellow plus size woman attempted to adjust my clothing because my belly was showing. So yeah, I am a real OG when it comes to this conversation.
You would think that by now society would understand… they gonna get this work (not actual work but werk, you get it… RIGHT)! Surely, they have seen enough fat girls slaying life and wearing what we want to know that we mean business. Maybe they are just trying to keep hope alive; praying that Baby will stay in the corner. Well, let me tell you… Hope is DEAD, and Baby is out of the corner; in the middle of the floor twerking and doing splits!
Listen; Fat, plus size, thick and curvy girls (or whatever you respond to), we are already seeing record high temperatures and Summer isn’t even here yet. Don’t get caught slipping, covering up to accommodate others. Show some skin! Crop top, tank tops and short (shorts, skirts and dresses) everything are what’s on the menu. So, rather #issa snack or full course meal, your job is to serve it up right!
Oh, and just so you know I’m not leading you to uncharted territory or in the event that you need some style and bad ass fat girl inspiration, check out these plus size fashionistas that walk it like I talk it!
