I have loved African printed fabric for as long as I can remember. I am drawn to the array of vivid colors and patterns. I can recall, as a young girl watching my Auntie Carolynn, My Mom and their friend Cel sitting around making earrings, kufi caps and other clothing out of kente cloth and other African fabric. I would always find a way to get me a little something made, even though kids my age didn’t consider it stylish, I did and I rocked it!!!!
Last year I became familiar with Kenya Boyd- Crawford, a designer from Los Angeles, California; who has created looks for one of my favorite vloggers, Moontastic. She and I talked via Facebook and decided to barter services, I would make her several shirts and in return she would make me a skirt. All I provided her with was my measurements and the style of skirt I wanted. From there, she did the rest but saying I was pleased is an understatement.
I had been waiting on the right time to wear this skirt. My plan was to wear it during ASU‘s Homecoming but the opportunity didn’t present itself. However, I final got the chance to wear it while attending my Great Aunts 80th birthday party in Miami last weekend. I received so many compliments and I must agree, I looked AMAZING!!! Below you will find details to the entire look and links to all of the items including that of Kenya Boyd- Crawford. Kenya can also be emailed at KustomMade415@gmail.com.
