PHAT Girl Fresh Top Five Moments of 2014

December 31, 2014

Well I think it is safe to go head and dispose of our 2014 calendars. I know that it is customary to review the most memorable moments of the year, so I decided to my top five moments with you.  Rather it makes the top five or not, I can honestly say that 2014 has been an amazing year for myself and the PHAT Girl Fresh brand.

1. PHAT GIRL FRESH presents Life Styled 2014

May 3, 2014 was one of the happiest days of my life. I was able to successfully produce a sold out event that honored the good works of some amazing individuals while celebrating the anniversary of PHAT Girl Fresh.  I knew going into the show that not many people believed I could or would pull it off but God had already shown me differently. So despite the naysayers and adversity that attempted to stand in the way, this event was a huge success.

I can remember after the show calling my daughter crying like a baby, just to tell her that no matter what anyone says, “never give up on YOU!”  Producing this show was about many things and one of them was showing my daughter that faith and hard work delivers great rewards.

2. Full Figured Fashion Week 2014

I could honestly talk about the experience I had at Full Figured Fashion Week this year for hours on end. Being in the presence of so many women that I love and respect while absorbing all of the positive energy. The entire event was a game changer for me. It heightened my senses and made me more aware of the possibilities….

3. Open Letter in Plus Model Magazine

image

One of my dreams came true when an open letter I wrote published in Plus Model Magazine after a body shaming incident that went viral and caused a lot of controversy. The photo  came from a shoot I produced in Albany, Georgia featuring a diverse group of women wearing swimsuits.  The shoot was amazing but,  hate and ignorance stepped in and attempt to cast a dark cloud on what was intended to brilliantly radiant display of love and confidence.

However, in the midst of what was supposed to be negative,  love stepped in and claimed the victory. Not only were women that aspire to impact the plus size community allowed to be seen in one of the most recognized and respected plus size publications, but women were inspired and empowered to be bold and love their skin.

4. Confessions of a PHAT Girl

image

For many years I have debated on exactly how I would tell my story. In toying with my options,  I thought of all the other women like me with stories that will connect them to other girls and women. Stories that allowed women to speak their truth. Every woman has a a story and these monologues show what it is to be passionate,  happy, appreciative and true.

More than the stories,  I was overjoyed to have amazing women such as; Melinda Santiago,  Marie Denee,  Keke Simpson, Juicy Lucy and Moccastyles to supporting the project.

5. Life of A Working Model Boot Camp

image

I had the honor to work with Liris Crosse during her Life of a working Model bootcamp in Atlanta.  I was more than honored to assist her and finally get to meet her. During the bootcamp I had the pleasure of connecting with some driven and goal oriented young ladies. I was also able to network with Bella Styles, Chenese Lewis, Derek Blanks, Michael Knight and many other industry professionals.

As I wrote this, I realized even more, I am blessed. However,  I know that God has greater for me in 2015 and I am ready for it all!!! STAY TUNED!!!!

This is not a post about fashion. This is a friendly reminder that the way you style your life determines how successful you are and the influence you offer the world. How you style your life connects you to your purpose and living your purpose draws you closer to God. Your style can’t be mimicked or matched; it is a muscle only you can flex.

This is God’s doing! I still remember vividly th This is God’s doing! I still remember vividly the way I felt when I found out I was pregnant with my son. I remember the day I planned to abort him. I damn near remember every moment that I have shared with him over the last 23 years and every moment I had with God on his behalf. As we prepare for yet another amazing moment, I am grateful.

Grateful that God loved me enough to bless me with this joyful black boy. Grateful that he was patient as I grew from girl to woman while being his mother. Grateful that he inspired me to push past every roadblock placed in my path.

@youknowitszaydoe, I am so proud of you and I love you far beyond any words, actions, or material items, black man. I once called you sun because you shined like one but truthfully you out shine the sun, son. i pray that you receive and cherish every good and perfect thing God has for you. I pray you continue to pursue your purpose with passion. Most of all I pray that and abundance of love and light surround you and that despite life challenges you never cower in the face of adversity.
