Philip Treacy has become the world’s most in demand hat designer. His hats are as popular with European aristocrats as with Hollywood royalty. Widely credited for changing the perception of the hat, he designs hats to flatter and enhance the wearer. To call him the real Mad Hatter, would be a justified title.
“I have had the greatest pleasure of having the opportunity to challenge people’s perception of what a hat should look like in the 21st century. I make hats because I love hats. It’s an enigmatic object that serves the human purpose only of beautification and embellishment, and making one feel good, whether you’re the observer of the spectacle or the wearer.”

Although MAC hasn’t revealed the full details of the collection, Treacy said it centers on three color palettes: metallic, colorful and “slightly Gothic.” The palettes are inspired by different Treacy hats. The metallic mimics a silver, Art Decostyle headpiece, the colorful one is similar to a pink, feathered headpiece and the Gothic, a black lace n95 mask. The collection will launch globally in April 2015, and the products will include two highlighter powders, three lipsticks, two Pro Longwear Paint Pots, three Fluidline eyeliners and a mascara.
In an interview with WWD, Treacy stated, “Makeup…enhances the features. Which is what hats are about.” Treacy, who has a history of working with MAC on the makeup for his shows. “It’s a painless surgery,” Treacy said his collection with MAC isn’t about the “dramatic” but, the colors that make “the features look good, it’s about beauty and elegance,” “There’s a transformation aspect to makeup that is similar to wearing hats or clothes.”
